Unit 1: Child development in early years

Develop an understanding of the holistic stages of the development of children and young people from birth to 19 years. Look at how to monitor children and young people's development using different methods and increase knowledge of the factors affecting development. Learn techniques for observing children and how to record these observations, and about the importance of play opportunities for children and young people.

Unit 2: Engaging with the requirements of statutory frameworks in relation to safeguarding and welfare

Learn about the main legislation utilised within early years settings and look in detail at safeguarding and welfare. Learn how to identify signs and symptoms of common childhood illnesses and what actions should be taken when children and young people become ill or get injured. This unit also highlights the potential signs and indicators of abuse and what actions to take in response to evidence or concerns that a child or young person is at risk of abuse.

Unit 3: Creating a positive environment

Explore the ways of working with parents and carers, including how to appropriately meet and greet children and parents/carers and the importance of sharing concerns. Discover what ‘transition’ is and the importance of liaising with parents and carers to ensure the child or young person is supported prior, during and following transition.
